Dirty Cocktail Glasses, Revenge Quit Karma, and Your Secret Corporate Escape Plan
I couldn’t believe this.
There I am, a corporate worker-bee in my 20s, walking into my fancy civil engineering firm headquarters one morning. And what do I find in my office?
A tray of dirty cocktail glasses from last night’s boys’ club celebration, casually left on my desk.
Oh, you should have seen the trembling lips on my ash-white face.
The unspoken message from my male boss and his executive buddies was crystal clear: “Clean this up, sweetie — isn’t that what assistants are for?”
Spoiler alert: It was not what this assistant was hired for.
My response?
I grabbed that tray and relocated it to its rightful home — the men’s bathroom, ignoring the astonished face of one of its occupants. (Hey, if they wanted a maid, they should have hired one!)
Then I locked myself in my office and did what any self-respecting professional would do: started mentally drafting the world’s most epic resignation letter.
You know, the kind that would make LinkedIn’s “Top 10 Most Savage Quit Stories” list.
But here’s where the story takes a more interesting turn…
Instead of going all “take this job and shove it,” I decided to get creative with my revenge.
Because, why storm out in a blaze of glory when you can build your own company instead?
Fast forward to today, and — that tray of dirty glasses? The best career advice I didn’t ask for!
It lit a fire under me that turned into something way more powerful than a rage-quit moment.
Now, maybe your “I’m so done burned to a crisp” moment isn’t about dirty dishes.
Maybe it’s:
– That passive-aggressive email about “office culture”
– Another soul-crushing meeting that could’ve been a text
– That return-to-office (or quit) mandate that’s making your eye twitch
(By the way, they’re calling it “revenge quitting” these days. )
But Wait! Before You Hit ‘Send’ on That Spicy Goodbye Email…
I get it.
The fantasy is delicious.
Telling your boss exactly where to file those TPS reports?
Posting that spicy LinkedIn update about toxic workplace culture?
Here’s to spilling the tea…
In our hyper-connected world, that mic-drop moment can become tomorrow’s face-palm 🤦 moment real quick.
Nothing’s more awkward than running into the boss you dramatically told off… when they’re considering becoming a client of your new business.
The Plot Twist They Didn’t See Coming
Ready for some delicious irony?
That job driving you nuts? It’s actually your secret business investor! (And it doesn’t even know it!)
